This fascinating book traces the origins of vinegar to ancient Greece and Egypt and follows its history to the present day. Orey quotes from leading alternative health practitioners as well as medical researchers. She goes into great detail about the healthful ingredients found in two of the most important vinegars: apple cider vinegar and red wine vinegar, explaining the benefits of their vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids. She also describes the latest research about cutting-edge nutrients found in these two vinegars, including a new class of antioxidants that reduce the risk of cancer and protect against heart disease. The Healing Powers of Vinegar, Revised and Updated customer reviews:

Excellent book Having read articles and hearing about the benefits of vinegar, I was anxious to read this book. Not only does Cal Orey present the benefits and healing power of vinegar, she combines it with the history and definition of vinegar. Her collection of stories and different kinds of vinegars, along with the many treatments, like the prevention of food poisoning, as well as how to make your own flavored vinegar and delicious recipes. Cal treats us to the surprising benefits of a staple almost everyone has on their shelf.
I've heard of wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar and cider vinegar but I never knew about rice vinegar, herbal vinegars or fruit flavored vinegars among others she mentions. I discovered how different vinegars prevent cancer, prevent bone loss, help with weight loss and even help you live longer. This is one book I'm keeping on the shelf next to my cookbooks.
Pot 'o Gold The healing powers of vinegar is humorous, inviting and informational. Cal Orey weaves personal anecdotes and perspectives through a body of endless research, interviews, recipes and remedies so that the book just flows. Suprisingly, the subject matter is practical and light enough to be engaging, while the writer's style involves the reader to keep him riveted. Who ever thought that a book about vinegar could be this entertaining? (Not to mention educational!) Culturally, the current focus on everything 'Green,' make relevant and timely the numerous discussions on the detoxing powers of vinegar. Everyone wants things fresh and nice, yet few realize the harm they may cause themselves with household cleaning products and their runoff. Orey matches much of this conversation with the personal experience of trying to keep a house clean, rid pets of fleas, and as a waitress, to keep an eating establishment free of germs. She writes about the myriad of ways she manages to do this without exposing everyone to harsh chemicals that can cause health problems. Once again, this shared intimacy with the reader about the many aspects of the topic keeps the delivery from being dry. The healing powers of vinegar has been revised and updated to include many more household cures and healthful cooking ideas. The recipe resource alone makes this book a must for anyone trying to improve their cooking. Here are some of the claims bolstered by testimonials and expert opinion gathered together by Orey. Many people are trying to boost their fiber--Vinegar does this. Others are trying to lose weight--vinegar can be applied here as well. Still others claim to have lived many years of good health and have enjoyed the glow of vitality throughout. If you have pets, you can better care for them than you ever thought possible. The book goes on to claim and explain that vinegar's applications also include hair, skin, wound care and keeping a kitchen disposal clean and fresh smelling. Almost all of us have one of those, right? Well, each of us should have a copy of this book as well.

Awful! What a joke of a book! This guy isn't even all that sure about what he writes... it is full of "some people say..." and "supporters believe..." Lots of quotes from other writers, not much in the way of supporting evidence. I actually do like the vinegar tonic now and then but this book was not helpful in either explaining its usefulness nor in giving me confidence that I am doing the right thing! How the RealAge.com people ever recommended it is beyond me! I usually respect their opinions, but believe me, this book is not worth the paper it is printed on.
Vinegar, the miracle medicine. I found many good and useful vinegar recipes. Also, I learned something about buying vinegar. Every morning I heat a large mug full of water and two tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar and one tablespoon of honey for 3 minutes and 30 seconds and then stir. (Heinz is made from whole apples and recommended by the author),
Great uses for Vinegar I liked this bok because it showed some great uses for Vinegar that I didn't know about.
